About artspace
Artspace was formed in 2002 to house galleries, artists and studios under one roof making a small artist community with a large market. In 2009, fine art photographer, Davin Lavikka took over artspace giving his on-line gallery a new home and giving himself an opportunity to open a commercial photography studio in the middle of it.
Artspace continues in the same tradition of having artist studios infused with the gallery as set by its original owners. The only major changes to artspace are the dominance of local artists and the addition of a fine art photography gallery. In this new environment artists rent wall space in the galleries or studio space and turn the gallery takes a smaller commission then a traditional gallery. The idea of artists paying small rents gives the gallery more stability over a traditional gallery in a tough economy and also promotes more marketing power giving the artists even higher visibility.
Another aspect of the original idea that will be further explored is using artspace as a venue for a unique meeting space. Artspace is the largest gallery in Old Town Scottsdale at 7,700 sq ft. The current building is two stories with a large, full kitchen, four bathrooms, balcony, elevator, conference room and a large common area. This space has been used for classes, seminars, private parties, and weddings.
It's not just artists that support artspace. We also have catering and event planning companies working out of artspace. Clearly the most unique meeting space in Scottsdale for small events.
